Overview
An episode is a record of a single event or incident in a case — for example, a medical appointment, a phone call, or a letter being sent. Episodes are attached to document pages and automatically populate the case chronology, timeline and calendar.
Episode fields
Each episode has the following fields:
Field | Description |
Author | The person associated with this event (e.g. the treating doctor). Selected from or saved to the Author Registry. |
Type | A category for the episode (e.g. Progress Note, Medical Report, Legal). Used for filtering and grouping. |
Date | The date the event took place. |
Time | The time the event took place (optional). |
Notes | Rich text notes providing detail or context about the event. |
Pre-event toggle | Marks this episode as occurring before the case Event date. Used for workspace section grouping. |
Show in timeline toggle | Controls whether this episode appears in the Chronology > Timeline view. |

The episode panel opens on the right side of the screen.

Episodes on stapled pages
When pages are stapled together, an episode can be added to the staple group as a whole rather than to a single page. This is appropriate when the stapled pages together describe a single event.
Editing and deleting episodes
To edit an episode, click the pencil icon in the episode panel. To delete, open the episode and click Delete. Deleting removes the episode from the chronology, timeline and calendar immediately.
How episodes feed into the case
Chronology > Episodes — a full list of all episodes ordered by date.
Chronology > Calendar — episodes appear as colour-coded events on the calendar.
Chronology > Timeline — episodes plotted on a visual timeline chart.
Reports — episodes are included in report templates that reference episode data.
