C4: Uploading Documents

The Upload Case Documents dialog, Files tab layout and document processing.

Overview

Documents are uploaded into a case via the Upload Case Documents dialogue. Each upload is a batch — one or more files added together. Every document is assigned to a collection, which determines how it is processed. Uploaded documents and their pages are managed in the Files tab.

Opening the upload dialogue

There are two ways to open the upload dialogue:

  • From the Workspace tab — click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the case name and select Upload documents.

  • From the main area — click the Upload Documents button.

Uploading documents

  1. Open the Upload Case Documents dialog.

  2. Optionally enter a Comment to describe this batch of uploads.

  3. Add files using one of three methods: ADD FILE(S) to select individual files, ADD FOLDER(S) to upload an entire folder, or FROM GOOGLE DRIVE to import from Google Drive.

  4. Alternatively, drag and drop files or folders directly into the upload area.

  5. Click UPLOAD to begin.

File limits: 5GB maximum file size per file. Password-protected PDFs and ZIP files are not accepted. Case Chronology may remove some irrelevant pages automatically.

The Files tab

All uploaded documents for a case are managed from the Files tab. The left panel shows the document list. The Collection dropdown at the top of the left panel filters the list by collection. Each document in the list shows its upload date and time, filename, page count and any labels assigned to it.

Document processing

  • OCR and process collections — the document is split into page images and OCR text is extracted. Pages appear in the page grid once processing is complete.

  • Storage collections — the document is stored as uploaded. No page splitting or OCR is performed.

Processing status is shown next to each document in the left panel. You will receive an in-app notification when processing completes.

Document labels

Labels can be added to individual documents to make them easier to search and filter. Click the three-dot menu next to a document in the left panel to add or edit labels.

Batch grouping

Documents uploaded together form a batch. In the left panel, use the list view toggle to switch between a flat list and a grouped-by-batch view — useful for tracking which records were received together.
