C10: Duplicate Page Detection

Automatic detection, the Duplicates tab, the compare dialogue, and workspace management.

Overview

When working with large volumes of documents, it is common for the same page to appear multiple times across different files. Case Chronology automatically detects potentially duplicate pages and provides tools to review and manage them.

How duplicates are detected

After documents are processed, Case Chronology compares page images across all documents in the case. Pages that are visually similar above a matching threshold are flagged as potential duplicates. Detection is automatic — no manual action is required.

Note:

Duplicate detection is based on visual similarity. Two pages may be flagged even if they differ slightly due to scan quality or annotations. Always review flagged duplicates before taking action.

Duplicate indicators

Pages that are part of a duplicate group display a special indicator icon on their page card in the Files tab. The Filters panel in the Workspace tab includes a Duplicates only toggle to show only flagged pages at once.

The Duplicates tab

The Duplicates tab inside the case shows all groups of potentially duplicated pages. Each group displays the matched pages side by side for comparison.

  1. Open the case and click the Duplicates tab.

  2. Browse the duplicate groups. Each group shows the matched pages.

  3. Add pages to the compare dialogue by clicking the scales icon.

  4. Click the Compare button in the top-right corner to open the pages compare dialogue — a side-by-side full-size view of selected pages.

Pages compare dialogue

The compare dialogue displays pages side by side at full size. Scroll each page independently to inspect differences. Use this to decide which page to keep in the workspace as the primary copy.

The compare dialogue can also be opened from the Workspace tab or the Files tab.

Managing duplicates in the workspace

  1. Use the Duplicates tab or the Duplicates only filter in the workspace to identify flagged pages.

  2. Open the compare dialogue to confirm which version is the preferred copy.

  3. Ensure the preferred page is in the workspace with its episodes attached.

  4. Remove the duplicate from the workspace by clicking the folder icon on its card.

Note:

Removing a duplicate from the workspace does not delete the page from its source document. If the duplicate has episodes, review and move them to the preferred page before removing.
